Online Chinese Language Instruction

The website eChineseLearning.com is an online Chinese language school that offers one-on-one tutoring in speaking, reading, and writing Chinese.  http://sina.echineselearning.com.

Users connect with their tutors using Skype.  Lessons are 50 minutes long and may consist of repeating vocabulary, sentences, and dialogues in Chinese.  Tutors are bilingual and trained in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.

If you are interested you can sign up for a free lesson.  You can then purchase a package of lessons from the many different packages offered.  Some of the packages include Basic Chinese, Survival Chinese, and Travel Chinese.  There is also a referral program that allows students to receive one month of free lessons if they refer someone to eChineseLearning.com’s classes.

The website eChineseLearning.com  has many free resources for learning Chinese.  For example, it provides a series of podcasts of Chinese dialogues accompanied by written and oral translations, as well as explanations of grammar and word usage.  Some of the topics for the podcasts include family members, shopping, going on a diet, and finding a bank.

Other methods of learning Chinese include taking a class at a community college, self study using books or language software, or traveling to China to attend a language school, such as World Link.  A popular kind of Chinese language software is RosettaStone®.  Another option would be to attend a summer language institute.  Such institutes are offered at several American colleges, such as Beloit College, Middlebury College, and the University of Chicago.

Some useful books for Chinese study are Chinese in 10 Minutes a Day ® by K. Kershul, Conversational Chinese 301 compiled by K. Yuhua and L. Siping, and Beginning Chinese by J. DeFrancis.
