Where do I start when I want to learn the Chinese language ?
So many people want to begin learning a foreign language but do not realize how much effort, commitment and the sheer amount of time it takes out of your day. Therefore to give you the upper hand it is crucial to know the best ways in which you can learn the Chinese language in the most effective way possible. So here are a few practical tips that myself and others who have mastered the Chinese language have learnt and are able to pass on our knowledge to you.
Firstly when you start the process of learning the Chinese language you will need to learn the pinyin which is all the phonetic alphabet and pronunciation of Chinese characters rolled into one.
• So step one is to closely observe, then to go over and the to memories easy vocabulary and sentence structures.
• Buy a good dictionary ensuring that it has a list of phonetic spellings that you can refer to.
• Find a Chinese pen pal or go on a language exchange website so you can converse regularly with native Chinese speakers, and get immersed in the natural cultural surroundings and keep up to date with the latest slang.
• Make regular visits to Chinese restaurants and community centers where the workers speak the Chinese language so you can get use to hearing the phrases in practical situations.
• Reading aloud is also very effective and by listening to a tape, repeating the words and the sounds that are made by the teachers can be a very efficient way for you to quickly learn the Chinese language.
• Also I know this might sound funny but I found that singing Chinese songs was a fun and a great way for me to practice and memorize Chinese words that I was struggling with and some of them are surprisingly catchy and speeds up the process of you becoming familiar to the Chinese language successfully.
On top of this you can go to China yourself and take an immerse class and dive into learning the Chinese language and this is the way most fluent speakers have learnt the language. This gives you the chance to have Chinese neighbors, interacting daily with Chinese speakers and being constantly surrounded by their culture.
